Juwan Frazier, 37, formerly of 17126 Grant Street, is charged with one count of first degree murder, said Detective Lieutenant Scott Bailey of the Lansing Police Department.

Frazier was accompanied by his attorney when he turned himself in to Lansing police Monday and declined to make a statement, Bailey said. Frazier will be remanded to the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department and will face a bond hearing at the Markham courthouse on Tuesday.

The victim, Floyd Steele, 34, of Chicago, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to head and body, Bailey said. Lansing paramedics had transported Steele to Franciscan Hospital in Hammond where he died of his injuries.

Police were called to 17126 Grant at approximately 2:20 a.m. on July 6, where they found Floyd on the ground with several gunshot wounds. Bailey said Steele was sitting with Frazier’s former girlfriend inside a vehicle parked in the driveway when Frazier confronted the pair and then allegedly opened fire. Police found several shell casings at the scene, but no murder weapon has been recovered.

Bailey noted that the woman still lived at the address, but believed Frazier had moved out, although he was still using the address as his own. He added that police questioned eyewitnesses to the shooting, which led to the charges against Frazier.

No further information about the victim was available. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Lansing police at 708-895-7150.
