LANSING, Ill. (July 10, 2021) – The spirits of competition and charity will be in the air at the Lansing Old Timers Sports Complex on Tuesday, July 13, as Lansing Police officers take on the TF South Varsity Baseball team in a friendly game of softball.

The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Babe Ruth Field, located at 16700 Chicago Avenue in Lansing. In cooperation with We Are Lansing — a nonprofit organization — there will also be a clothing drive at the game.

A new idea to bring people together

This is the first game between the officers and students, the idea of new police chief Al Phillips.

“My goal behind it is to get to know some of the kids over at TF South, and hopefully they bring some friends, and maybe some family members and we can all see that we’re not that different,” Phillips said.

“I’ve got some tricks and some things to try and keep it close,” he joked about the game, “I’m going to do everything I can to keep from getting killed.”

Anyone from the community is invited to come and watch the game, contribute to the clothing drive, and share in the burgers and hot dogs cooked by department brass.

Attendees are encouraged to bring new or gently used items such as shirts, pants, shoes, lines, bed/bath items, home items, and more. For a full list, visit wearelansing.net/giveback.
