Weekly wrap-up for July 9, 2021

by Melanie Jongsma

LANSING, Ill. (July 9, 2021) – Managing Editor Josh Bootsma was back in front of the camera with Melanie this week to provide insights and highlights from the past week of local news.

Welcome everyone (not just Lansing) (0:55)

Lansing Journal readership stats change daily, and we typically look at 30-day segments to gain insights about where our readers come from and what stories are most-viewed. Somewhat surprisingly, in three of the past four months, Chicago has edged out Lansing as the number one location of Lansing Journal readership. Percentage-wise, during the four-month span from March through June, Chicago represents 21% of our readers; Lansing is at 17%; Calumet City 4%; Schererville (IN) is 2%; and Hammond (IN), South Holland (IL), Munster (IN), Ashburn (VA), Cedar Lake (IN), and Chicago Heights (IL) round out the top ten, each with viewership right around 1%.

More Local Spotlights (2:36)

Readers expressed appreciation for last week’s visit to Barber Rick’s Barber Shop, and we plan to do more “Local Spotlights” of Lansing businesses, churches, people, and organizations.

The pink building is Kdulche Café (3:36)

Lansing has a flag (6:09)

Carrie Steinweg’s article was published during the busy July 4 weekend, so in case you missed it, here’s the link again:

And kudos to Josh for teaching us all a new word: vexillology.

See us at Cruise Night (7:29)

The Lansing Journal will have a table in front of Mancino’s at the corner of Ridge Road and Roy Street, and we are grateful for their hospitality and for the support of the Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce. Stop by and visit us while you’re cruising Ridge Road between 6:00 and 9:30pm, Saturday, June 10.

Hello Sophie (9:01)

Melanie’s dog is a nine-year-old Welsh Terrier who generally minds her own business while Josh and Melanie are recording the weekly round-up, but this morning she popped in for some attention.
