Elizabeth “Betty” Humphrey, 95, of Springfield, IL, formerly a long-time resident of Lansing, IL, peacefully passed away at 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital.
Betty was born March 7, 1926, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Maximilian and Mary Keller Bratt. She married Jesse Earl Humphrey in July of 1951 in Chicago; he preceded her in death in 1993.
Betty studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and attended the Vogue School of Design. She was active in the restoration and preservation of the Brinkerhoff Mansion on the former campus of Benedictine University and was curator of the Lansing Historical Society. Betty received accolades from the Illinois State Historical Society for her commitment to preservation.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Rudolph Bratt.
Betty is survived by her three children, Patricia (Randall) Rushing of Springfield, IL; Nancy (John) van der Linden of Williamsburg, VA; and William Humphrey of Austin, TX; also grandson, Alex van der Linden; and great-grandchildren, Oakley and Calder van der Linden.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date with burial at Roselawn Cemetery in DeMotte, IN.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for people to do something kind for someone today in memory of Betty.
