LANSING, Ill. (May 29, 2021) — Computers, books, and even new doors are on their way to T.F. South High School.
The Thornton Fractional District 215 Board of Education approved those expenditures and more at their May 25 meeting.
District expenditures and programs
District 215’s 1,550 new Chromebook computers were approved at a cost of $499,100.00. The board also approved the purchase of 205 All-In-One computers, costing $153,545.00, and 15 Laptops at a cost of $11,625.
Students are getting new algebra textbooks, as the board has approved a six-year licensing agreement at $141,263, to be funded through grant monies.
Ward Contracting & Building Restoration received a $368,700 contract for door replacement work at T.F. South and North, to be completed this summer. District 215’s $6,185,000 2020 bond issue is funding the project.
The board approved a three-year agreement with the Educators Rising program. The $58,194 cost, funded through the Educator Pathway Grant, will provide learning opportunities to educators. Teachers will be enrolled in courses such as “Foundation of Education” and “Educational Methodology.”
The district’s new Cosmetology/Barber school will be using curriculum and resources purchased from Milady. The $7,934 expense will be paid from the Career and Technical Education Improvement Grant.
Career Development Department launched
District 215 is strengthening its career development and technical course offerings with creation of the Career Development Department. The new department better equips District 215 educators to help students become successful and prepared for employment or education beyond graduation.
Benefits include additional dual enrollment courses, certification training, community partnerships, and opportunities for earning an Associate of Arts degree while in high school.
The district currently has programs for building and construction, auto mechanics, collision repair, business, childcare, culinary arts, engineering, and TV production.
The International Brotherhood of Electric Workers NECA Technical Institute (IN-TECH) has formed a partnership with the district to add electrical training to its Career & Technical Education offerings. IN-TECH will provide an instructor for a new two-year program to be offered to students.
