Obituary: Linda Joy Whipple

Linda Joy, formerly of Aurora, now of Lansing, passed away without pain May 15, 2021. She left this world as she wanted, surrounded by love and received in heaven by her mother Edith Garvin and husband Manuel I. Garcia.

Linda grew up on the south side of Chicago and always shared fond memories of riding her bike through Jackson Park to the museum. She later moved with her family to Roseland, Dolton, and finally Aurora, IL, where she met the love of her life. She was transferred to Aurora through work at Prince Castle, which she retired from in 1982 when she gave birth to her daughter, Rebecca Joy, in April of that year. Linda Joy was blessed to have received several step-children and grandchildren through her husband Manny, including her beloved granddaughter Geneieveve.

Linda had a passion for life like no other. Despite her physical hurdles she made amazing memories for her girls and everyone around her. Linda volunteered when she could and would give you the shirt off her back. She was an avid bowler in her younger years and loved to play poker. She was an amazing cook and had an ability to decorate a home like no other. She was also an artist and a lover of old movies and QVC!

She is preceded in death by many but survived by even more, including Rebecca, Geneieveve, Adam, Jeanne, Diane, Kathy Josie, Rose, Eve, Esmeralda Lee, Marie Elena, Connie, Joanna, Sandra, Joyce, Carole, Evette, Mary, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great grandchildren.

She will spend eternity in all of the beautiful places where she loved to spend time with her girls, as her ashes will be spread at a later time. Visitation with friends and family will be 5:00–6:00pm on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansing, IL, with a memorial service beginning at 6:00pm, followed immediately by a small reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Suburban College Foundation Manuel and Linda Garcia Memorial Scholarship.

  1. My beautiful cousin Linda, what will I do without our phone calls? You could always make someone’s day a good one with your stories and your laugh. Give my Aunt BJ a kiss and save one for yourself. Love you now and forever. jo anna
