David A. Van Prooyen, age 66, of Brandon, FL, formerly of Lansing, IL, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021. Loving father of Ruth (Charles) Hoover, Robert Van Prooyen, James Van Prooyen, Lori (Ryan) Kemp, and Kara (Francesco) DeBartolo. Proud grandfather of Johnathan Van Prooyen, Madison Hoover, Caden Hoover, Ian Hoover, Brody Kemp, Liam DeBartolo, Brianna DeBartolo, and Avery Kemp. Beloved son of Joan and the late Harold Van Prooyen. Dear brother of Kathy (Gary) Oosterkamp and Randy (Colleen) Van Prooyen. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
An open visitation will be held Monday, May 17, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Graveside service at Oak Ridge Cemetery – Lansing, IL.
David was a 1972 graduate of Illiana Christian High School. He worked at Galeforce Roofing in Brandon, FL as a project manager. He was a mentor to his coworkers, and an integral member of the team helping to grow the business to what it is today. He had such a love of the beach and living in Florida and enjoyed visiting the theme parks there. He was incredibly gifted in the electrical field as well as the mechanical field and construction. He was very smart and kind-hearted. He leaves behind many friends and family who will miss him and who loved him very much.
