First Christian Church of Lansing, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

LANSING, Ill. (April 9, 2021) – The Community Closet of Steger and Southlands is hosting its annual Promapalooza this Sunday, April 11, after proms were cancelled last year due to COVID-19. The event will give away prom and graduation clothes for free to local teens.

“Some schools are having their proms this year, some parents are hosting proms for the schools who have cancelled proms, and most schools are having some type of graduation ceremony,” said a post on the Community Closet’s Facebook page.

The giveaway will offer dresses, shoes, jewelry and “other odds and ends” to girls, and a limited number of suits, shirts, and ties to boys. Graduation attire will also be available.

Started a decade ago by Laura Hensley, the annual giveaway’s purpose is to make prom — often a cost-prohibitive activity — accessible to students that might not otherwise be able to participate.

The giveaway will last from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Lansing at 2921 Ridge Road.
