Hospitalization metrics continue to trend upward

information gathered from Johns Hopkins University by HiGeorge; information gathered from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the SSMMA COVID dashboard by Melanie Jongsma

LANSING, Ill. (March 29, 2021) – This post includes data for the village of Lansing and data visuals for the states of Illinois and Indiana.

As of last night, 1,352 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 280 were in the ICU, and 128 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators. Because these hospitalization metrics continue to trend upward, the state has not yet met the conditions to move to the Bridge Phase. However, the state is close to meeting the vaccination threshold: 69 percent of seniors 65 and older have now been vaccinated. Health officials continue to urge all residents to mask up, socially distance, and wash hands frequently to reduce transmission and bring the metrics back in line to transition to the Bridge Phase.

  • Cumulative total of COVID-19 deaths: 18 (Previous day’s total: 18)

Case positivity and test positivity rate are both relevant and offer insight into the bigger COVID-19 picture. Case positivity helps us understand whether changes in the number of confirmed cases is due to more testing or due to more infections. Test positivity accounts for repeated testing and helps us understand how the virus is spreading in the population over time.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from March 22-28, 2021, is 3.3%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from March 22-28, 2021, is 3.8%.
