Lorraine Banasiak (nee Gendek), age 78 of Lansing, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. Lorraine married her beloved husband Jim at St. Michael’s Church in South Chicago, IL on May 30, 1970. They were married for 51 years and had three sons. She is survived by two sons: Mark Banasiak and James (Kristin) Banasiak. Their son, Steven, passed away in January, 2020. Lorraine is also survived by her sister-in-law: Christine Lapinskie; brother-in-law: Dave Banasiak; and many nieces and nephews. Lorraine also preceded in death by her parents: Marin and Anna (nee Sadlowski) Gendek; mother and father-in-law: Walter and Emily (nee Staszak) Banasiak; sisters-in-law: Rita (late Howard) Hathcoat and Rene (late Michael) Lesko, and brother-in-law: Duane Banasiak.
Friends are invited to visit with Lorraine’s family on Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 301 S. Cottage Grove Avenue, Glenwood, IL. A mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Father William McFarlane officiating.
Lorraine was a member of the St. John Women’s Club. She had worked for many years as an instructor for 1st National Bank of Chicago (now Chase Bank), she was an avid White Sox and Bears fan, and she loved gardening and had a green thumb. Most of all she loved her family and will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lorraine’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, The Salvation Army, Ronald McDonald House, or your local Veteran’s group. Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home in Lansing, IL has been entrusted with Lorraine’s care and arrangements.
