Obituary: William Carl Gerken

July 19, 1926 – September 18, 2020

William (Bill) Carl Gerken, age 94, passed away September 18, 2020. A WWII US Navy veteran, Bill was past Commander of Lansing VFW Post 7660.

Survived by his 3 children: Carla (Rudy) Diaz, Scott (Lori) Gerken, Kerry (Jill) Gerken; 3 grandchildren: Mark Diaz, Jennifer (Steven) Clement, Jake Gerken. Also, his siblings: Clyde (Arlene) Gerken and Norma Jean Cathcart (Gerken). Preceded in death by beloved wives Nancy Gerken (1969) (West), Dorothy Gerken (2003) (Davis) formerly Martin; also by siblings Larry Gerken, Rosalee (Walter Krupa) Gerken, and Donald (Marcella Schahfer) Gerken.

During his life in Lansing, Bill was business partner with Leroy Smith in the 1950s as Lee & Bill’s Sinclair station at Ridge Road and Fred Street. Then in the 1960s–70s on Torrence Ave and 178th Street as a Phillips 66 station. He also was a member of the Lansing Kiwanis Club during those years. In 1995, he relocated from Munster, Indiana, to Peoria, Arizona, then in 2008 to Sun City West.

He was laid to rest in the National Veterans Cemetery Arizona October 23, 2020.
