COVID-19 data and visuals published August 18, 2020

LANSING, Ill. (August 18, 2020) – The Lansing Journal partners with HiGeorge to gather and present COVID-19 data from a variety of sources each day.

Lansing

The cumulative total of reported COVID-19 cases in Lansing reached 618 today. The cumulative total of COVID-19 deaths remains at 12.

Illinois

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 1,740 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including another 27 confirmed deaths.

The chart above shows positivity rates for the current day as well as the overall positivity rate since March 16, when data began to be tracked. The fatality rate is the percentage of positive-testing people who died, on the current day and overall.

The formulas used to calculate positivity rates are:

  • Today’s rate = (Positive increase in cases for that day) / (test results increase for that day)
  • Overall rate = (Total number of cases since 3/16) / (total tests since 3/16)

Indiana

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) today announced that 850 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and 28 Hoosiers died today from COVID-19.
