CALUMET CITY, Ill. (August 3, 2020) – “My reason for writing is to bring literacy back to children,” said Mark Wilows via email. To that end, he and co-author Travis Joseph Ziegler have published Silas and Sophie, a children’s book about the friendship between a boy and his dog.
Silas is an only child who bonds immediately with Sophie, a dog who joins him on a journey through life’s tests and hardships. “The book will make you appreciate life’s simpler things and realize friendship, bonding, and memories are the most important things in life,” says the back cover.
Wilows and Ziegler hope the book will encourage parents to read to their children, igniting a joy of books in young readers.
Wilows lived in Calumet City for 25 years and attended TF North High School. He has worked as a feature reporter, actor, producer, writer, TV talk show host, and podcaster. He describes himself as “an avid animal lover.”
Ziegler was raised on a Northwest Indiana farm.
