LANSING, Ill. (May 20, 2020) – Greetings on behalf of the Memorial Junior High School staff,
Due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, unfortunately our formal 8th grade graduation held at the Serbian Center had to be cancelled. However, it is important for Lansing School District 158 to still honor our graduates for their commitment and arduous work, as they culminate their time as students at Memorial Junior High School. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we announce the production of our Mighty Mustangs Virtual 8th Grade Commencement Ceremony.
As our students make the important transition from grade school to high school, we want to celebrate the hard work and persistence that they have exhibited to get to this point in their educational journey. The Lansing School District 158 School Board and Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Schilling, have very generously provided all our 8th grade graduates with a free cap and gown. The 8th grade students eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony had an opportunity to take part in a photo shoot to receive a free graduation picture, in commemoration of their graduation achievement. This of course was all done practicing our required social distancing guidelines.
The production of our virtual commencement ceremony will allow us to further acknowledge and celebrate our graduates, while observing the social distancing safety requirements. The Memorial 8th Grade Graduation Committee has been working diligently to organize this exciting venture to honor our students. The Mighty Mustangs Virtual 8th Grade Commencement Ceremony will be available for viewing on our district website (www.d158.net) the same day and time as our original commencement time of Thursday, May 28, 2020, at 7:00 pm. During the program, we will have the following Mighty Mustangs present speeches to their classmates:
