Dear Thornton Fractional 215 Families:
On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, Governor Pritzker announced that remote learning in Illinois would be extended through April 30, 2020, to slow the spread of COVID-19. I subsequently shared that students would log in (as they did prior to spring break) on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. However, that date has now been pushed back to Monday, April 13, 2020. We have decided to use four of the five days allotted for remote learning planning purposes to provide professional development and lesson planning opportunities. This will ensure our staff members are more than prepared to implement a robust remote learning plan.
…Monday, April 13, 2020, will be the first A/B schedule day for students as outlined below. This plan will be in effect until the Governor reinstates onsite instruction.
Each lesson will last no more than 30 minutes. All remote learning activities for the designated periods can be accessed at 9:00am, Monday through Thursday.
Student Schedule (4/13/2020 – 4/30/2020)
I recognize this extended delay in getting students back into some semblance of normalcy is not ideal. Unfortunately, the interruption of school due to COVID-19 requires additional time for our teachers to identify the most critical teaching standards to close out the year while simultaneously preparing every student for the next grade, including life after high school.
Prior to Monday, April 13, 2020, every student will receive a welcome back letter from their teachers. This letter will outline specific expectations from each teacher, as well as other particulars. We ask all students to log-in (as they did prior to spring break) on Monday, April 13, 2020 by 9:00am.
Again, while this is not ideal, we want to assure you that our teachers and staff will be fully prepared to take on this new challenge and push forward with remote learning, engaging with students, and continuing with our food distribution programs. For your convenience and reference, you can access our remote learning plan and a Frequently Asked Questions document on our district website.
…Remember, if you have questions, you can email [email protected]. We also share updated information on our district website and social media accounts.
As always, we appreciate your support of our district!
