CALUMET CITY, Ill. (March 8, 2020) – TF North seniors Aniyah Moon and Diacos Love were recently named Posse Scholars and have each received four-year renewable scholarships that total over $400,000. Moon will attend Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia, on a $44,450 scholarship that is renewable for four years, totaling $177,800. Love plans to attend Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, with a $56,868 scholarship that is also renewable for four years, totaling $227,472.
The Posse Foundation partners with select colleges and universities and strives to expand the pool from which their partner schools recruit outstanding young leaders from diverse backgrounds. In addition to scholarships, Posse Scholars receive resources and support such as pre-collegiate training, on-campus mentorship, job opportunities, and more. In 2010, President Obama donated a portion of his Nobel Peace Prize award to the Posse Foundation.
Moon and Love, along with Julie Stephan, an intern in the TF North guidance office that helped the students with the scholarship application process, were recently acknowledged by the Thornton Fractional District 215 Board of Education. Principal Brian Rucinski introduced Moon and Love at the February 25 Board meeting.
Superintendent Teresa Lance noted, “I am so proud of Aniyah and Diacos. I am equally excited that they will be representing our school district and community as Posse Scholars at Agnes Scott and Oberlin respectively. I want to especially thank Mrs. Stephan for believing in our student scholars and investing the time to encourage them in the application process.”
