‘Taste of First’ returns to First Church PCA March 13

by Melanie Jongsma

LANSING, Ill. (March 1, 2020) – For just 50ยข, you can get a taste of falafel, or polenta, or stuffed shells, or Oreo truffle, and enjoy it in the company of foodies from Lansing and beyond. On March 13, at 5:00pm, First Church PCA will host their 11th annual Taste of First, a festival of home-made entrees, soups, sides, and desserts.

Organizer Sandy Hamer encourages people to come as early as possible because even though the portions are small, vendors sell out. “People come from all over,” she said, not just members of First Church, and not just residents of Lansing.

Tickets are sold at the door for 50ยข each, and experienced Tasters purchase 10โ€“20 at a time, knowing they want to sample as much as possible. Depending on size and substance, a single taste can require one, two, or three tickets.

First Church posted a flyer on Facebook that lists some of the promised samples:

  • Falafel
  • Chicken vegetable soup
  • Sloppy Joes
  • Hot ham sliders
  • Italian beef sliders
  • Venison sliders
  • Chili
  • Polenta
  • Broccoli cheese soup
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Caribbean-style turkey
  • Stuffed shells
  • Curry chicken and rice
  • Raspberry cheesecake
  • Oreo truffle
  • Baklava

Coffee, water, and soda will also be available for one ticket.

Ticket purchasers are given a tray and instructions to walk around the room purchasing whatever samples look interesting. Tables are set up, so sample shoppers can sit and eat whenever their tray is full.

Proceeds from the Taste of First help support the work of PASS Pregnancy Center and Angel Academy Preschool, both ministries of First Church PCA.

First Church PCA is located at 3134 Ridge Road, on the northwest corner of Ridge and Burnham.
