The Comprehensive Center Program consists of 19 regional centers and a national center that provide capacity-building services to states, districts, and schools to improve educational outcomes and instructional quality for all students. The Region 9 team on which Lance will serve as an advisory board member represents Illinois and Iowa. The advisory board includes chief state school officers, local and regional education agencies, perspectives from urban, suburban, and rural areas, higher education institutions, parents, practicing educators, and the business community. The board advises the center on strategies for addressing the region’s educational needs and promoting improved student academic achievement.

Lance will serve a two-year term and be asked to participate in discussions on how to best use the center’s resources to meet the region’s needs. She will also be responsible for representing the interests of students across the region, including those from rural, suburban, and urban areas and those from historically underrepresented groups.

Lance said, “I am honored that I have been invited to serve on the advisory board and that I am able to be a voice not only for students of District 215, but of our entire region.”

District 215 board president Michael Bolz said, “I am excited that Superintendent Lance has been asked to be on the Region 9 Comprehensive Center Advisory Board because she will have the opportunity to represent the needs of our district and other districts in the region and influence the use of federal resources to the benefit of students.”
