Four dates available for families to experience preschool
By Josh Bootsma
LANSING, Ill. (January 31, 2020) – St. Ann School will host four Practice Preschool sessions throughout the month of February in an effort to allow families and their young children to experience what preschool is like.
The dates for Practice Preschool are below:
- February 6 – 4-5pm
- February 13 – 4-5pm
- February 20 – 6-7pm
- February 27 – 6-7pm
Families with children who will turn three by September 1 are invited.
“The goal of Practice Preschool is for new families and students to get an in-depth look at preschool and become comfortable with our program,” St. Ann’s preschool teacher Colleen McGovern said. “This is the first school experience for many, so it’s a good way for them to be introduced to our room, rules and routines, and other students without the pressure of starting a full school day right away.”
Families may attend one or two of the sessions by registering online. Practice Preschool is a free program.
“I think the parents like to come in, see our room, and what goes on during the day,” said preschool aide Jacqueline Alderfer. “Three-year-olds don’t usually come home and tell their parents what happened at school in any kind of detail. So they appreciate seeing for themselves what the routine is.”
Last year, the school had four morning sessions for Practice Preschool but this year wanted to accommodate parents who work during the day.
St. Ann Preschool started in 2007 and welcomes three and four-year-old children five days a week, with full and half day options available. The school offers hot lunch and before and after school care for working families.
“Participating families don’t need to bring anything other than their children [to Practice Preschool],” McGovern said. “Parents should stay for the hour and can check out the Extended Day room and other areas of the school. ”
