CALUMET CITY, Ill. (November 24, 2019) – The TF South Dreamers Club will be hosting a Lotería Night at Don Pedro restaurant (316 Torrence Avenue, Calumet City) to raise money for a TF Dreamers Scholarship. The cost of each card is $5, and participants must be at least 21 years of age.

The event is a combined effort between TF North and TF South to provide an in-house scholarship to a Senior Dreamer student. The Dreamers Club at TF South has been in existence for less than a year, so they are not yet legally able to sponsor a fundraising event, so the Loteria Night funds will go to TF North this year.

“We are working together to support a student from District 215,” explained TF South Spanish teacher Rocio Flores, who is the Dreamers Club sponsor, “so they can have financial help for their post secondary education.” Flores is hoping that by second semester, Dreamers at TF South will be able to apply for the scholarship.

“Our goal is to help as many Dreamers as our funds will allow us to,” she said.

The TF South Dreamers Club includes Reyna Espinoza (President), Javier Alcantar (Vice President), Liz Jimenez (Treasurer), and Publicity Officers Kyla Johnson and Dulce Lopez. The club worked with the Guidance Office to sponsor a Financial Aid Night in Spanish in September to help parents understand the high school process and requirements to graduate. “This was important for our community,” said Flores, “as there are some parents in our community who did not attend school in the United States and are unfamiliar with the grading process, graduation requirements, and post-secondary opportunities available to their students.”

In addition to the November 26 Loteria Night, upcoming Dreamers Club plans include:

  • Hosting a viewing party of “Living Undocumented,” a Netflix series
  • Working with the TF South Latin Dance Crew to do a “Pulsera Project”
  • Potentially offering another Loteria Night, held at TF South s
