SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (November 14, 2019) – The Art & Design Department of South Suburban College is pleased to announce a special guest artist exhibition of photographs by Jordan Scott in the Photo Four through the Closing Reception on November 20 at 12:30pm.
Scott received a Chicago Photography Academy Certificate in 2015 and a BA from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He grew up in Skokie, Illinois, nearby a business district extending roughly a mile in all directions from the corners of Peterson and Lincoln Avenues. For fans of the vintage, the unusual, the seedy, the offbeat, and the out of place, the style of architecture on Peterson and the unfashionable motels on Lincoln hold a special place. On close consideration, these buildings are beautifully out of time and place. These now squalid and crime-ridden rest stops (several offering hourly rate options) were once considered family-friendly and modern. It’s just a matter of time before the city or local community groups demand their demolition, or the current owners finally sell for redevelopment. Scott decided to document some of these idiosyncratic structures before the inevitable occurs.
SSC Galleries are open at minimum Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00am–6:00pm, and Fridays from 9:00am–4:00pm. The galleries are closed on weekends and holidays. The public is welcome to visit art exhibitions and receptions at no charge.
