SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (November 1, 2019) – South Suburban College’s Adult Volunteer Literacy Program is hosting its annual Family Reading Night event on Wednesday, November 13, from 6:00–8:00pm in the college’s Performing Arts Center Lobby. The public is encouraged to attend this free event to find out about community literacy while enjoying stories and presentations. There will also be free books for children, raffles, interactive games and refreshments.
Illiteracy is an issue that can be debilitating for adults and children. Adults who are unable to read have a more difficult time with many daily activities that others may take for granted, along with a clear disadvantage in today’s competitive job market. SSC’s Adult Education Department administers the Adult Volunteer Literacy Tutoring Program in addition to High School Equivalency (HSE/GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), and Adult Basic Education (ABE).
