information provided by Evil Horse Brewing Company

CRETE, Ill. (July 23, 2019) – Evil Horse Brewing Company will be honoring war horse Sgt. Reckless and Smoke the Donkey at its third annual Sgt. Reckless Day on Saturday, July 27, from noon until midnight.

The event will feature a book signing from 3:00 to 6:00pm by Robin Hutton—author of Sgt. Reckless, America’s War Horse and War Animals, The Unsung Heroes of WWII—and Cate Folsom, author of Smoke the Donkey, A Marine’s Unlikely Friend.

Folsom’s husband, Col. John Folsom, president and founder of Wounded Warriors Family Support, will be on hand to talk about the work that WWFS does to assist the families of wounded soldiers.

Evil Horse will be raising funds for WWFS’s newest project, the Dunham House, by donating one dollar from each Sgt. Reckless APA and Smoke the Donkey NEIPA beer that is sold that day. Quarter pound all-beef hot dogs and chips will be available for purchase from noon to 3:00pm, with all proceeds going to the Dunham House, a 24-bedroom home that will be built near Omaha, Neb., whose mission is to provide long-term care for combat wounded veterans with spinal cord and/or moderate to severe traumatic brain injuries.

The day’s events will also include hourly door prize drawings; brewery tours at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00pm; food specials from The Loft; live music by John Mark; and more. Veterans and active military will receive an Evil Horse pint glass on Sgt. Reckless Day and are eligible for a 10% discount every day on their purchases at Evil Horse.
