The first Community-wide Garage Sale will be Saturday, June 8. Participants need to register by May 24 to be included in advertising for the event.
LANSING, Ill. (May 16, 2019) – Lansing will host its first community-wide garage sale on Saturday, June 8, and already 34 residents have signed up from across Lansing. Sales will run from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

For participants who register before May 24, the Village will waive the usual $5 permit cost. The Village is also creating a Garage Sale Map that will show the locations of all participating addresses. The map will be shared online and in various media outlets to encourage shoppers to come to Lansing and make the rounds.

The idea of a community-wide garage sale is not unique to Lansing, but Mayor Patty Eidam sees it as a fun way to bring the village together in a shared experience. Village staff will be looking for feedback from participants to evaluate the success of the experiment.

Also on June 8

June 8 is also Lansing’s first Cruise Night of 2019, so car enthusiasts who also enjoy garage sale-ing may choose to come to Lansing early to shop for bargains before cruising Ridge Road from 5:00–9:00pm.

Lansing Association for Community Events (LACE) sponsors the Cruise Nights, and they are working with the Village to end each Cruise Night with a themed concert at Fox Pointe. The June 8 Cruise Night Concert will begin at 8:30pm and feature music from the 1950s and 60s.

Register to participate

The event will take place rain or shine. To be included in the village-wide promotion and mapping of the garage sales, and to have the permit cost waived, residents must register with the Village:

  • Visit Village Hall (3141 Ridge Road) to complete the registration form in person.
  • Access the form here: Community-wide Garage Sale Registration (PDF). Information can be typed directly into the PDF, saved, and then emailed to [email protected]

Forms must be completed by Friday, May 24. The permit cost waiver is for Saturday, June 8, only. Multi-day sales that week will require a separate permit.
