Gus Bock book signing rekindles memories

by Melanie Jongsma

LANSING, Ill. (March 16, 2019) – Author James Drury was at Lansing’s Gus Bock Ace Hardware this afternoon, signing copies of his book, A Man Named Bub. The book recounts memories of three small adventures—two in Lansing and one in Schererville, Indiana—that made a lasting impression on his young mind. Because one of the adventures happened at Gus Bock Hardware (as it was known at the time), Drury made arrangements with Owner Keith Grill to have a book signing there.

Meeting the author and perusing the book gave people an opportunity to share their own memories of the long-time Lansing business. Randy Reinsma, for example, recalled the gift shop that used to be in the lower level of the store.

Author James Drury is now a national speaker, author, and professional auctioneer. He has used his Lansing stories in presentations, and people often told him he should write a book—so he did. Owner Keith Grill had printed a copy for him of the Lansing Journal’s online article about the book signing. The story also appeared in the March 6 print edition. (Photo: Melanie Jongsma)

Gus Bock Ace Hardware is located at 3455 Ridge Road in Lansing.
