U.S. Postal Service to dedicate Star Ribbon Forever stamp

by Melanie Jongsma

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. (March 3, 2019) – The U.S. Postal Service will dedicate its new Star Ribbon Forever stamp in a ceremony on Friday, March 22, at 11:00am at the ASDA Midwest Postage Stamp Show in the Holiday Inn Chicago Oakbrook. The first-day-of-issue event for the stamp is free and open to the public.

The stamp features a digital illustration of a star made from a single red, white, and blue ribbon. The tri-colored ribbon, folded into a patriotic symbol, is intended to evoke the connectedness of the American people. Aaron Draplin, who designed the stamp, created the artwork first by sketching the design by hand and then rendering it digitally. Greg Breeding served as the project’s art director.

The stamp will be sold in coils of 3,000 and 10,000 and in panes of 20.

The Holiday Inn Chicago Oakbrook is located at 17W350 22nd Street in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. Dedication ceremony attendees are encouraged to RSVP at usps.com/starribbon. News of the stamp is being shared with the hashtag #StarRibbonStamp.
