Jim Buiter to lead AWLI board in 2019

WHITING, Ind. (February 2, 2019) – The board of directors of the Association for the Wolf Lake Initiative (AWLI) elected Jim Buiter of Crete, Illinois, as president of the not-for-profit organization and land trust at its January 25 organizational meeting.

Buiter is a financial adviser and CPA, having earned his MBA from DePaul University in Chicago. Also, he is an executive board member and national director of the Izaak Walton League.

Elected vice president of AWLI was Jack Walter of Schererville, Indiana. Walter, past president, is retired from a career as an investigator and paralegal. He earned a law degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

Debbie Lucia of Glenwood, Illinois, was re-elected secretary. Lucia is bank manager of the Hegewisch branch of First Merchants Bank.

AWLI’s board also re-elected Miles Sullivan of Chesterton, Indiana, as treasurer. Sullivan works in financial technology sales. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Two new members joined AWLI ‘s board of directors. Joan Crist is associate professor of theology at Calumet College of St. Joseph. David Dolak is professor of instruction at Columbia College, Chicago. In addition to teaching theology, philosophy and social justice, Crist coaches the school’s rowing crew. A resident of Hammond, she earned a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, and a doctorate in philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. Dolak, a native of Hammond, teaches courses in science and a course in musical instrument making at Columbia. He is a former scientist at Argonne National Laboratory and wrote the Water Resource Management Plan for the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. He earned degrees in science at St. Joseph’s College of Rensselaer, IN and Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

The two were elected at AWLI’s annual membership meeting on January 17.
