LANSING, Ill. (January 24 2019) – Last September’s How-To Festival was a great success, said Library Director Debbie Albrecht. Soon after it was over, she began planning a second one. She scheduled it during February as an alternative to the winter doldrums.

Albrecht used the library’s newsletter to invite presenters to sign up to lead classes. “Share a hobby or something that may be of interest to folks,” encouraged her article. “It could be what you do as your profession.” As of Wednesday, a variety of local experts had signed up to offer the following 19 classes:

  1. How to Make Your Straight Hair Wavy with No Heat! (Jill Watterson)
  2. How to Talk Like a Pirate! (Kelli Staley)
  3. Effective Communication (Sharon Giles)
  4. How to Do Baby Sign Language (Emily Laidley)
  5. How Your Family Can Live Clean—Body and Home—With Essential Oils (Jill Watterson, Young Living Essential Oils)
  6. How to Make a Card! (Karen Farrar, Stampin’ Up)
  7. How to Make a Tee-Shirt Scarf (Rosalee C. Lester)
  8. How to Create a Vision Board (Marija Stancov)
  9. Basics of Cyber Security (RJ Reynolds)
  10. How to Make a Little Winter Birds Mobile (Loraine Tiedemann)
  11. Scarves, Scarves, Scarves and How to Wear Them (Rosalee C. Lester)
  12. How to Manage Anxiety (Kelly Dienes)
  13. How to Write a News Article (Melanie Jongsma, The Lansing Journal)
  14. How to Host a Family Game Night (Jami Thompson)
  15. How to Safely Use Essential Oils with Kids (Gayle Reinsma, Young Living Essential Oils)
  16. How to Take Awesome Pictures with Any Camera (Daniel Cuthbert)
  17. How to Speak Spanish: a Conversation Intro (Jadyn Newman & Hannah Berridge)
  18. How to Tame Your Email: In Pursuit of Inbox Zero (Kelli Staley)

The classes are arranged in various locations on both floors of the library. Each class is 30 minutes long, and two different classes are offered during each time slot, so attenders will have to make a choice about what they want to learn.

In addition, informational tables will be staffed by Aunt Martha’s Clinic, Aunt Martha’s Health & Wellness, Oak Street Health, and Who Do You Think You Are?, a genealogy service.

The library has posted the entire schedule of How-To classes, including times and locations, on the Events tab of their website:

And a printer-friendly PDF is available online as well:
