LYNWOOD, Ill. (January 9, 2019) – The Southland Athletic and Event Center (a Ho-Chunk Nation enterprise) in Lynwood, Illinois, recently installed over 41,000 square feet of portable wood court flooring. The newly installed floor is the largest continuous portable wood court floor in the western hemisphere and the second largest in the world. This flooring space will accommodate 10 basketball and 14 volleyball courts under one roof from April through October.
Courts of this size allow the Chicago Southland to attract larger regional and national events that prefer to host their entire roster in one location. The upgrade makes the Southland Center facility more attractive to event organizers for gymnastics, cheer, and other activities such as hobby and niche style gatherings.
Joel Koester, Sports Market Manager for the Chicago Southland CVB, stated, “We have over two weeks of events coming this April and May to occupy the new courts. We anticipate filling the entire 2020 schedule by mid-2019, with a plethora of traditional and nontraditional sports. The economic impact that this one facility will have on the entire Chicago Southland region is quite substantial, and we look forward to all of the new groups coming to the area.”
