Shooter surrenders peacefully to Lansing police

LANSING, Ill. (November 21, 2018) – On November 20, 2018, at approximately 4:12am, the Lansing Police Department responded to the area of Thornton-Lansing Road and Chappel Avenue for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located two male subjects lying in the street with gunshot wounds. The first victim was a 20-year-old male who was pronounced deceased on scene. The second victim was a 19-year-old male who was treated and transported to Munster Community Hospital, and later, to the University of Chicago Hospital.

The Lansing Police Department, with the assistance of the Major Crimes Task Force, was able to identify a person of interest. The South Suburban Emergency Response team, along with Lansing’s Emergency Response team, responded to the 17800 block of Locust Street to assist with taking the subject into custody. A peaceful surrender was negotiated and the investigation continues.

The second victim is currently listed in critical condition.
