Oktoberfest at Lan-Oak Park

SSSRA hosts picnic and games for regional members

LANSING, Ill. (October 6, 2018) – Although 97 people had registered for the annual SSSRA Oktoberfest, the falling temperatures and windy rain affected attendance at this afternoon’s event. Still, those who did bundle up and gather in the gazebo at Lan-Oak Park enjoyed hot food, warm fellowship, music, and games.

Oktoberfest is a free event organized by the South Suburban Special Recreation Association (SSSRA) for people with disabilities and their families. SSSRA partners with 10 park districts and parks departments, including Lansing’s Lan-Oak Park District, to provide programs and opportunities for people with special needs to be involved in year-round recreation.

SSSRA’s work in Lansing has included seasonal events at LARC, a bowling event at TF South High School, and a variety of programs that are part of the Lan-Oak Park District’s offerings at the Eisenhower Center each year. Through these outreaches, SSSRA serves more than 300 Lansing households.
