SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (August 23, 2018) – The Art & Design Department of South Suburban College is pleased to announce a special guest artist exhibition titled “Fruit Fly: Summer of the Grasshopper,” by artist Mark Frazer in the Photo Four Gallery from now through September 12. A closing reception is scheduled for September 12 at 12:30pm. The Photo Four Gallery is located in Room 4338 on the fourth floor of SSC’s Main Campus.

Mark Frazer has been creating art since 1990 and living in Chicago since 1995. In 2016 he began documenting his color pencil artwork by photographing it. He had just completed a 10-year mandala series, and in the process of photographing it, he discovered a technique of multiple exposures in a single shot. Frazer then started creating a series of images with a method he called “grasshopping.” Each image is the same motion, the same rhythm, and Frazer describes it as “like a haiku, one shot, like a movie still…a rhythm of a breath of a moment.” Frazer created almost 3000 different images using the grasshopping method. For this series, he limited his selections to those showing his commute to and from work and walks around his Chicago neighborhood.

SSC galleries are open Monday–Thursday from 9:00–6:00pm, and Friday from 9:00am–4:00pm. The galleries are closed on weekends and holidays.

The public is welcome to visit art exhibitions and receptions at no charge.
