Thornton Historical Society announces contest

THORNTON, Ill. (July 13, 2018) – In celebration of the State of Illinois bicentennial, Thornton Historical Society has invited the community to submit photos and artifacts from historical Thornton. Submissions will be accepted through September 17, 2018.

Participants in the contest do not have to live in Thornton, but all submissions must be from Thornton.

Submission categories

  • Oldest photo
  • Oldest artifact (but no quarry fossils)
  • Judges’ choice: photo and artifact

Prizes (first, second, and third place prizes will be awarded in each category)

  • 1st Prize: Thornton Coverlet
  • 2nd Prize: $25 Jimboo’s Gift Certificate
  • 3rd Prize: Thornton T-Shirt

How to enter

Submission forms are available at the Thornton Public Library (115 E. Margaret), or they can be downloaded from ThorntonILhistory.com. Entries and completed forms can be brought to the Thornton Library, where they will be displayed in a locked case. Out-of-towners may submit a high-resolution scan (at least 300dpi) of a photo or artifact, along with completed submission form, to: [email protected].

Must be 18 to enter. Judging will be done and prizes will be awarded September 22 at the Thornton Historical Museum, 114 N. Hunter. Winners not in attendance will be contacted via phone or email. Winners will be announced on the Thornton Historical Society website and posted at the Thornton Library.
