Agendas: Village Board and Committee of the Whole meetings – 02/06/18

Reminder of change in order

Committee of the Whole meetings and Village Board meetings are held at 7:00pm on the first and third Tuesdays of every month at the Municipal Court Complex, 2710 170th Street. Meetings are open to the public.

As was explained before the January 16 meeting, the order of meeting presentation has changed. The regular Village Board meeting will be conducted first, at 7:00pm. The Committee of the Whole meeting will take place directly after the Board meeting adjourns. This change improves the flow of discussion items and votes.

Knowing what’s coming

The Open Meetings Act requires that “An agenda for each regular meeting shall be posted at the principal office of the public body and at the location where the meeting is to be held at least 48 hours in advance of the holding of the meeting.” The Village of Lansing posts agendas and minutes from public meetings in the “Documents” section of their website.

For convenience, we also post them here.

FYI: The two types of meetings

Typically, a Committee of the Whole meeting is where new items are presented for discussion prior to those items being voted on at an official Village Board meeting. By holding the Committee of the Whole meeting second on a meeting night, those items can then be acted on at the very next meeting, which is usually two weeks later. (Occasionally the span between meetings is longer than two weeks, such as when a month has five Tuesdays.) At each Village Board meeting, the Trustees are voting on items that have been discussed at the most recent Committee of the Whole meeting.
