Anonymous is an option

by Melanie Jongsma

To any of you who have made financial contributions to The Lansing Journal and didn’t expect to be publicly named and thanked, please accept my apologies.

I know public acknowledgement is not the reason you support this work. In fact, for some of you, remaining anonymous is a factor in choosing the causes you want to support.

I respect that. My choice to publish the names of our supporters was an instinct of gratitude. It is difficult for me not to say thank-you when your support makes such a difference in the health of this newspaper!

So please accept my apologies for putting my need to be grateful ahead of your need to be private.

Moving forward, please know that remaining anonymous is an option.

Whether you mail a contribution to The Lansing Journal (P.O. Box 742, Lansing IL 60438) or use our “Support” page to give online, please feel free to indicate ANONYMOUS in the memo line or the notes, and we will not publish your name.

Personally, I hope that many of you will continue to let us share your names when you make a contribution. I think it’s an encouragement to our community to see your example, and I know that those names have inspired others to give.

Those names also serve as a reminder to the broader community that community news doesn’t just happen. It requires community support. Contributions and advertising are our only source of revenue, the only way we can put ink on paper each month.

So when you make a contribution to The Lansing Journal, please consider allowing us to publicly thank you, but also know that remaining anonymous is an option.

And whatever you decide, please know that I am grateful, and so is Lansing.

Thank you!

  1. I don’t contribute to have my name announced but to help the community realize we need to support the newspaper or it will not be able to function.

    • Thank you, Joanne! We appreciate your ongoing financial support, and having names like yours in the paper does help people realize that this is a community paper dependent on community support. Thank you!
