Through live sound effects and musical underscoring, Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play is a triple feature that recreates a daring train chase, a serial killer’s ominous presence, and a devastating revelation of spies and subterfuge. The stage setting is that of a typical radio station of the 1940s. The PAC Rats Radio Players perform not only the characters for The Lodger, Sabotage and The 39 Steps, but also generate the wide variety of sound effects needed to bring the stories to life.

The show is directed by Lansing resident Sandra Wagner, who has a passion for the old-time radio genre. “The creation of live sound effects is a true art form,” said Wagner. “It’s also called ‘foley’ after movie sound pioneer Jack Foley. Legend has it that Jack walked 5,000 miles in the studio doing footsteps. He was a true genius.”

Vintage Hitchcock, written by Joe Landry, features the vocal and foley talents of Heather Young (Chicago), Sabrina Smith (Dolton), Paul Braun (Highland, Indiana), Bob Colton (Homewood), Marilyn Kopacz (Homewood), Pat Nevins (Homewood), Charlie Furtek (Lansing), Kevin Hathaway (Park Forest), Kimberly Azana (Posen), Malcolm Banks (Riverdale), Catherine Hundt (Thornton), Chris Johnson (Thornton), and Ashley Orendorff (Thornton).

The behind the scenes artists are costume designer JoAnna Tassin (Park Forest), with costume assistants Joan Sehlke (Dolton) and Judy Welch (Sauk Village). The sound engineer is Jordan Swierczyna (Robbins). Angela Martin (Midlothian) is the production manager. June Wagner (Lansing) is the stage manager, and Ellie Shunko (Lansing) is the set designer.
