Arrest made in July 21 parking lot shooting

LANSING, Ill. (September 13, 2018) – Yesterday, an arrest was made as a result of an ongoing investigation by the Lansing Police Department, the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, and the Cook County States Attorney’s office. Amari Ross, age 20 of Chicago, was ultimately charged with 1st Degree Murder in the shooting of Jessica Loverdi-Finister.

The shooting took place near midnight on July 21, 2018. The victim, identified as Jessica Loverdi-Finister, age 20 of Sauk Village, Illinois, had been brought to the Emergency Room at St. James Franciscan Hospital in Chicago Heights with a gunshot wound to the side. Detectives from the Lansing Police Department learned that the female subject had been involved in an altercation in the LA Fitness parking lot located in the 17300 block of Torrence Avenue. The victim’s friend transported her to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the case a Homicide. Since the incident, the Lansing Police Department has been conducting an ongoing investigation with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Cook County States Attorney’s office.

Ross’s bond hearing was held today at 1:30pm at the Markham Courthouse located at 16501 S. Kedzie Markham Illinois.
