LANSING, Ill. (June 15, 2018) – Blanca Alcantar of TF South High School is one of 175 students in the greater Chicago region who have been awarded scholarships as part of Comcast’s annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship program. The program provides a one-time, $1,000 scholarship to high school seniors for their community service, academic performance, and leadership skills. Alcantar’s scholarship will apply to the 2018–19 school year.

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program is a nomination-based award, and only one student per school may be nominated by the principal or guidance counselor.

Comcast’s Greater Chicago Region includes Central and Northern Illinois, Northwest Indiana, and Southwest Michigan. The program is funded by the Comcast Foundation. Since 2001, more than $28 million has been awarded to nearly 27,000 high school seniors across the country as part of the Leaders and Achievers® Program.

This year’s recipients were recognized at an awards ceremony recently at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.

“Leaders and Achievers Scholarship recipients exemplify leadership not only in academics but within their communities through service,” said John Crowley, Comcast’s regional senior vice president. “Comcast is honored to recognize their achievements and proud to support them as they continue their educational journeys.”

The philosophy behind the Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. The program also demonstrates the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.
