Nathan Schilling to replace Cecilia Heiberger

LANSING, Ill. (May 21, 2018) – The Lansing School District 158 Board of Education voted to approve a contract naming Mr. Nathan Schilling as its next Superintendent at a board meeting held on May 16, 2018. The decision comes after months of surveys, focus groups, and interviews by the District 158 Board of Education and a committee of building and district-level administrators.
School Board President Robert Bonifazi said, “We feel strong that tonight’s vote is a vote for the future of this district. We are extremely excited—a little bit nervous about what the future will bring—but we absolutely believe that we are fully invested in making sure District 158 moves forward and that our possibilities are absolutely endless under Mr. Schilling’s leadership.”
Nathan Schilling joins District 158 from Beecher High School, where he has served as principal the past six years. In this role, Mr. Schilling spearheaded significant revisions to the school’s crisis management plan, course curriculum, infrastructure, social emotional services, and AP program. Under his leadership, Beecher High School was named to the College Board’s 5th Annual AP Honor Roll and is the top ASCD Whole Child School in Illinois this year.
Mr. Schilling previously held teaching and department leadership positions in Woodstock, Chicago, and Carpentersville. He received degrees from Lake Forest College, Northwestern University, and National-Louis University and is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at Concordia University Chicago, where he serves as Adjunct Professor of Leadership.
“It is with great honor that I accept this position tonight,” said Schilling at the May 16 meeting. “I am very excited to get started. Thank you to the Board of Education for putting your faith and trust in me as the next leader of this school district. I look forward to contributing to the comprehensive and innovative educational opportunities Lansing offers its students while helping the district continue to promote a vision of whole child education.”
Schilling will replace Dr. Cecilia Heiberger, who is retiring on June 29, 2018, after 24 years of service to Lansing School District 158.
