LPD investigating shooting of Lansing girl

LANSING, Ill. (April 2, 2018) – On April 2, 2018, at approximately 12:00am, the Lansing Police Department responded to 17766 Rosewood Drive, where a 5-year-old female had been shot. The Lansing Police and the Lansing Fire Department treated the child for her injury and transported her to the
Munster Community Hospital for further treatment. She was later transported to Comer
Children’s Hospital. The child’s current condition is unknown.

During an initial investigation, it was learned that there was a party at the reported location. During this party, the child’s mother was handling a gun which went off, striking the child while she slept.

The Lansing Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is currently conducting an active investigation into this incident.
