Lansing Historical Society showcases innovative teaching methods

LANSING, Ill. (February 12, 2018) – The Lansing Historical Society spent most of January packing up the Christmas trees and displays that were part of this year’s Festival of Lights, and they now are ready to return to a more regular schedule of museum hours and special programs. “What’s Up with History in Our Schools?” is their first special program, scheduled for Monday, February 26, 6:00pm.
“We’ll be showcasing the innovative methods for teaching social studies going on in town,” says Barb Dust, President of the Lansing Historical Society. “It should be a fun evening for all!” Dust has lined up three presenters for the evening. Ms. Mary DiGrispino will bring a sample from the “Time Travelers,” a summer group that learns a different era in American history each summer through hands-on art, crafts, food, and drama. The TF South Social Studies department will present a few of the rap numbers from the Hamilton Education Program Mr. Matt Tiffey’s students were involved in. And Mr. Chris Robert’s students will share the latest happenings with the History Club and Mock Trial program.
“What’s Up with History in Our Schools?” will be presented on Monday, February 26, at 6:00pm on the new stage upstairs at the library.
The museum’s regular hours are:
- Mondays 6:00–8:00pm
- Wednesdays 3:00–5:00pm
- Saturdays 11:am–1:00pm
The museum is located in the lower level of Lansing Public Library.
