Visitor restrictions in place due to flu

Franciscan Hospitals in Northwest Indiana announce safety measures

information provided by Franciscan Health

NORTHWEST, Ind. (December 2017) – Influenza activity has increased in our Northwest Indiana area. Franciscan Health hospitals in Dyer, Crown Point, Hammond and Munster have instituted visitor restrictions to ensure the safety of the patients, their families, and hospital staff.

Visitor restrictions include:

  • No more than two visitors at a time
  • No children under the age of 16
  • In NICU only parents and grandparents if vaccinated more than 2 weeks ago—no children will be allowed
  • In Postpartum an exception will made for siblings visiting after the birth of a baby. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times and should be in good health without signs of respiratory infection.

Please remember that many respiratory illnesses besides the flu are transmitted when a person coughs, sneezes or touches surfaces with contaminated hands. Remember to cover your cough and wash hands frequently to prevent the spread of infection.
